INTRODUCTION

The global industrial scenario demands improved, energy saving and efficient material handling infrastructures for reduction in time as well as the reduced cost of transportation. The technologists all over the world are striving day and night to develop new technology with optimum use of energy, space, environment friendly solution for material handling, storing, reclaiming, blending and transportation of various types of raw materials and finished products for steel sectors, non-ferrous plant, mines, coal sectors, power plant, fertilizers, pharmaceutical industries etc.

Therefore several issues like technology transfer, upgradation of technology, proper implementation of existing and new up-coming projects using various modern techniques of project management, space constraint of the existing plant, automation & control, equipment development, design, quality aspects etc. are of utmost importance and require detail deliberation with reference to Indian conditions.

The proposed convention will cover the above issues along with different aspects of present and future concept of material handling system and will focus on latest emerging technology to provide an excellent opportunity and a common platform for mutual sharing of knowledge, expertise & experience and exchange of ideas amongst academicians, researchers, various material handling experts, engineers & consultants, planners, industrialists, manufacturers, end-users, plant managers & operators and government organizations.

STRUCTURE OF THE CONVENTION

The convention will be structured in line with the following activities:

* Dr. S. C. Bhattacharya Memorial Lecture.

* Dr. S. P. Luthra Memorial Lecture.

* State of the Art Lectures by the eminent personalities from the Mechanical Engineering field.

Felicitation of Eminent Engineers

Sub-themes:

The National Seminar will be based on various sub-themes as listed below but not limited to these following issues only:

* Energy conservation & space optimization technology and process.

* Bulk, slurry and pneumatic conveying system.

* Material handling equipment.

* Drives, Advancement.

* Storing and silo technology.

* Crushing and screening.

* Automation and control.

* Environment friendly solution.

* Manufacturing and quality aspects.

* Implementation.

* Mechanized storage and other miscellaneous activities relevant to material handling.

VENUE & DATE

The convention will be held on 23^rd and 24^th August 2008 in the Community Hall of MECON at Shyamali, Ranchi.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Apart from the invited lectures, abstracts of papers followed by the full text are invited from the experts in the field, based on the theme of the convention. After scrutiny by the Technical Committee, these selected papers will be published in the Seminar Proceedings. Depending upon the response and time factor, a limited number of papers will be selected for presentation in the seminar. The papers are required to be prepared in MS-WORD format with drawings & documents in AUTOCAD and submitted in soft copy on CD along with a hard copy printed on A4 sheets according to the following specifications. Blue prints and ammonia prints are not acceptable.

REGISTRATION

Registration of delegates should be made well in advance by remitting the registration fees (per delegate) as indicated below along with duly filled in registration form.

The registration fee includes copy of the Meet proceedings and other materials, tea / coffee, lunches and dinners during the Meet.

SPONSORSHIP

Industries, Government Departments, Government Undertakings, R&D, Organisations, Consulting Firms, Equipment Manufacturers, Quality Control Organisations and all concerned are invited to sponsor the national convention as Platinum, Gold or Silver Sponsors. Equipment manufacturers are also invited to book slots for Manufacturers' Presentation. The fees and the entitled benefits of the sponsors shall be as follows:

ADVERTISEMENT IN SOUVENIR

A souvenir will be brought out for distribution to delegates as well as to various sponsoring organizations and to all centres of The Institution of Engineers (India) across the country. Advertisements are invited from organizations for publishing in the souvenir.

The advertisement material is to be provided as hard copy along with soft copy on a CD by 15/07/2008.

TECHNICAL EXHIBITION

A technical exhibition will be organised during the convention to highlight the advances made in process technologies, products, equipment, instruments etc. Exhibition space of about 3m X 3m will be provided for each exhibitor. A fee of Rs.60,000/- will be charged for each exhibition space, which will include one free delegate.

PAYMENTS

All payments should be made through crossed demand draft or A/c payee local cheques, payable at par at Ranchi, drawn in favour of "The Institution of Engineers (India),  Jharkhand State Centre"

ACCOMMODATION

A list of prominent hotels with address and telephone numbers are given below. Delegates are requested to contact the desired hotels directly for booking well in advance to avoid last minute rush. Delegates who require assistance of the organizing committee for booking of hotel accommodation are requested to send Rs.3000/- towards advance along with the registration form, mentioning the preferred hotel choice-wise. The booking will be done subject to availability on first come-first serve basis.

About Ranchi

Situated 416km west of Kolkata and at an altitude of 640m above sea level, Ranchi is well connected by air, rail and road to all parts of the country. Ranchi is famous for its moderate climate, surrounded by forests, hills and a number of water falls. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the month of September are about 32°C and 15°C  espectively.
